Authenticity

“Authenticity is not something we have or don’t have. It’s a practice- a conscious choice of how we want to live. Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” – Brene Brown

This is one of my very favorite Brene Brown quotes…and that’s saying something because there are a LOT of good Brene Brown quotes! If you read my last post, you may have seen that authenticity is one of my top 5 values. Being authentic kind of goes hand in hand with being vulnerable. If that word, “vulnerable” kind of makes you cringe, that’s ok (and totally normal)! It’s scary to imagine being authentic and vulnerable with someone else. It’s taking off the mask that so many of us hide behind. But, it’s only by being authentic that people get to know the REAL us, and we can form deep relationships. Having a support system- people who know you, understand your struggles, and can provide support and encouragement when you slip- THAT is the core of long lasting recovery.

Who are you truly authentic with? If no one, who could you reach out to today?
